The Costa Dorada boasts a rich historic, architectural and cultural heritage, the origins of which date back to the times of colonisation by the Phoenicians, Greeks and Romans. Among the most important examples are the Roman heritage of Tarragona and the Cistercian monastery of Poblet, both listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites, as well as the modernist style buildings of the city of Reus.

The Costa Dorada has also presented the world with other artistic personalities of the calibre of musician Pau Casals (in whose honour an important cycle of classical music concerts is celebrated annually in El Vendrell, his birthplace), painter Joan Miró and architect Antoni Gaudí, among others.
