Manuel Ruiz and his wife Laura were enjoying a cocktail on the terrace overlooking the pool at the Golden Taurus Aquapark hotel. Laura lifted the cocktail glass and asked her husband Manuel:
—Darling, have you thought about next year’s holiday?
Meanwhile their two children, Lucas and Julia, were playing in the pool. Laura’s voice sounded dreamy; the holiday relaxation was already making her dream of future vacations.
Manuel looked up from his history book and, surprised, asked:
—Next year’s? But we’ve only just started our holiday here on the Costa de Barcelona.
Laura smiled, a knowing smile only she understood.
—Exactly. That’s precisely why. This summer has been wonderful—seeing the children enjoying the pool and slides is priceless—but… what if next year we think a little more about ourselves?
Manuel looked at her with healthy curiosity, putting the book aside.
—I’m intrigued by that idea, my love. What do you have in mind for us?
—I’ve been thinking about staying in a charming hotel by the sea on the Costa Brava. But not just any hotel, Manuel. My dream is one of those small beachfront hotels where we don’t have to cross a road to feel the sand. Can you imagine? Waking up in the morning, opening the curtains, and the first thing you see and hear is the sea, the gentle murmur of waves on the shore.
Laura remained deep in her dream of spending the next holiday by the sea.
—Then we’d go down to the dining room on a terrace with sea views and have a quality breakfast. A good coffee, fresh fruit, freshly baked pastries—all calmly, without rushing, without having to think about anyone else. And afterwards, just walk on the beach sand. Just the two of us, the sun caressing our skin, and the relaxing sound of the waves.
Manuel listened. At first he was hesitant about leaving the children, but gradually Laura’s vision began to entice him. The prospect of peace was a strong incentive.
—It sounds idyllic, Laura, I admit. But… what about the children? Should we leave them with their grandparents for a whole week?
Hotel with sea-view rooms
Laura nodded firmly.
—Just for once, yes. We need that break, Manuel. We need to reconnect, to truly rest. Think of our lost peace from years ago.
Laura already had the information on where to spend this holiday alone. Her aim was to book at the Golden Mar Menuda hotel, a charming hotel on the Costa Brava.
Her intention was to reserve accommodation with half board. They would only have to worry about enjoying themselves. And discovering hidden coves among pine trees, crystal-clear water, and charming villages.
Laura emphasized:
—My absolute dream would be a room with sea views, waking up and seeing nothing but the vast sea from the bed.
Mr and Mrs Ruiz need calm and peace. They want to enjoy the serenity of a hotel by the sea, take long beach walks at sunset, and dine to the gentle sound of waves.
Manuel stood up and hugged his wife from behind, resting his chin on her shoulder. Looking toward the same imaginary horizon, he said:
—I think we deserve it. After so many years focused on them, a little break just for us will be necessary.
What was once a distant thought now seemed incredibly appealing. The silence, the calm, the sea breeze in a secluded cove… perhaps Laura was right. Maybe it was exactly what they needed to rekindle the spark in their relationship.
They watched their children’s happiness in the pool together.
