On the Costa de Barcelona the sun shone brilliantly, the waves caressed the beach, and the Ruiz family felt lucky—summer holidays in swimwear were a true luxury. From her sun lounger by the pool at Golden Taurus Aquapark Resort, Laura watched her children, Lucas and Julia, enjoy the daily kids’ activities. Seven-year-old Lucas chased other children in a water game, while Julia, in her lively teenage energy, decorated her face with a new friend from Northern Europe under the supervision of the fun club animators. Laughter blended with upbeat hotel music—the perfect family-holiday vibe.
For Laura and her husband Manuel, these holidays were a balm. After a hectic year, the hotel—with its many pools, its proximity to the beach, and its kids’ entertainment program—was the ideal place to unwind. They spent the morning on the aquapark slides, and the afternoon promised ice creams and sunset strolls.
Couples’ getaway without children
At that moment, Laura’s phone buzzed. It was Tamara, her Pilates friend. Laura excused herself from Manuel—already heading off to fetch drinks—and picked up, stepping away from the noise to hear better.
—“Tamara! What a surprise! How are you?” Laura asked, imagining her friend at her desk in the office.
—“Laura! Great! You won’t believe where I am!” Tamara’s voice was euphoric.
—“Where? On vacation already?” Laura asked, curious.
—“Yes! I’m at the Costa Dorada, at the Golden Costa Salou hotel... it’s amazing. But you won’t believe this—it’s an adults-only hotel! No kids, not a single one!” Tamara’s exclamation was a mix of shock and pure satisfaction.
Laura frowned; the contrast was stark. —“Adults only? What do you all do there? You must be bored,” she joked.
Tamara laughed. —“Absolutely not! It’s incredible. The hotel organizes daily activities just for adults: wine tasting, cocktail classes, spa treatments... There are several very tranquil pools and relaxation zones with Balinese beds. One pool even has sea views—we’re just meters from the beach—but the atmosphere is pure calm. By the way, today we went to Port Aventura, and it was amazing!”
Laura listened, her gaze drifting beyond the lively children’s scene around her. She pictured Tamara relaxed, worry-free, enjoying an admirably calm environment: the spa, the Bali beds, the evening music... an enviable image.
When she hung up, Manuel returned with the drinks. —“Everything okay, love? You look thoughtful.”
Laura handed Lucas his juice and Julia her slushy. Then she looked at Manuel; the idea of child-free couple holidays returned to her mind. —“Manuel, I talked to Tamara. She’s in an adults-only hotel on the Costa Dorada. No kids, calm pools, spa... she says it’s paradise.”
Manuel smirked, stirring the ice in his drink. —“Oh yeah? Sounds… different. But we’re doing fine here with the kids, right?” He gestured toward their children running back to the pool.
Laura smiled, but her decision was already made. —“Yeah, we’re great. But... what if next year we plan a getaway like Tamara? We could book a room at the Golden Costa Salou Adults Only hotel. No schedules, no rush... just you and me. We could visit the Roman ruins in Tarragona and enjoy a more intimate holiday.”
Her suggestion hung in the air, promising a future where the only sound would be ice in their cocktails. It would be the best way for two adults to enjoy a well-deserved break at 100 %.
