The steam rising from the freshly served coffee cups lightly fogged the café window, creating an intimate and cosy atmosphere, a small bubble within the city. Laura held her cup with both hands, letting the warmth comfort her palms, and released a long sigh filled with nostalgia and relief.
“Oh, Tamara, honestly… you can’t imagine how much we needed this break last summer,” Laura said, her eyes shining at the memory. “It was a complete success.”
Tamara, calm and curious, stirred her coffee softly and leaned forward, ready to listen to every detail.
“Tell me everything, because last time you were completely overwhelmed with packing,” her friend encouraged.
“Totally!” Laura laughed. “I spent weeks thinking about what to bring to the hotel. We even doubted for a moment which area to choose for the holidays. My husband insisted on looking at something in Salou, Spain, you know, because of the tourist atmosphere, but my daughter preferred the Costa de Barcelona to meet her new crush. In the end, we found the Golden Taurus Aquapark Hotel, which ticked all the boxes for everyone: activities, pools, water slides, beachfront location and close to Barcelona, Spain.”
Laura took a sip of coffee and continued, gesturing enthusiastically.
“It’s a beach hotel designed exclusively for families. Tamara, it was paradise. We had full board, which meant I didn’t have to think about cooking a single meal. And the hotel… wonderful. Several pools, activities for the kids all day long, and the entertainers were lovely. The kids were entertained, and we could finally breathe.”
She paused, lowering her voice as if sharing a state secret.
“But let me tell you, the best thing of all was the room. We booked a family room. You can’t imagine the mental peace of having separate spaces. The kids had their area, and we had our own bedroom with a door. Privacy, Tamara. Privacy and real rest.”
Adults Only Hotels
Tamara smiled tenderly at her friend’s satisfied expression. She nodded slowly, fully understanding how vital that rest had been.
“I’m really happy for you, Laura. You look so much more relaxed. Those separate rooms sound like pure bliss.”
She placed her spoon on the saucer and leaned back gracefully, crossing her legs.
“I’ve also come back renewed from my holidays, although… my experience was the complete opposite,” she confessed with a knowing smile. “Given my current romantic situation, we wanted something totally different.”
“Where did you end up going?” Laura asked.
“We stayed at the Golden Costa Salou Hotel, an Adults Only hotel, also right on the beachfront,” Tamara explained, closing her eyes briefly as if she could still smell the salty breeze of Salou, Spain. “It was incredible. The facilities were beautiful and modern, but what really stood out was the absolute tranquillity everywhere.”
Laura chuckled.
“Silence? That word doesn’t exist in my vocabulary as a mum.”
“Exactly,” Tamara laughed. “We were lying on sunbeds by the pool, and the only thing you could hear was soft music and, occasionally, the clinking of ice in someone’s cocktail. No shouting, no ‘mum, look at me’, no cannonballs splashing your book. Absolute relaxation. It felt like time had stopped.”
They looked at each other and, after a second, burst out laughing. Two parallel worlds, two different ways of experiencing summer, yet both had found exactly what they needed.
“Let’s toast to that,” Laura said, raising her coffee cup. “To separate rooms and to the silence of Adults Only.”
“To tailor-made holidays,” Tamara replied, gently clinking her cup.
