The Sagrada Familia is one of the masterpieces of art and architecture of all time, with great heritage, cultural and religious value. Antoni Gaudí (1852-1926) had a great goal: to turn the Basilica into a perfect temple. He conceived it to be the tallest building in the city of Barcelona and to link the earthly with the heavenly.
March 19, 2017 marked the 135th anniversary of the laying of the first stone of the temple. Currently, 70% of the construction of the Basilica has been completed.
The starting point for the Sagrada Familia was Gothic architecture, which Gaudí modified and improved to propose a new architecture and which, due to its originality, makes this temple a unique piece.
The Expiatory Temple of the Sagrada Familia is a church with five naves with a transept of three, which form a Latin cross. At the upper end of the cross is the apse, semicircular in shape, which closes the basilica behind. In addition, the basilica consists of three monumental façades: each one represents one of the three culminating moments in the life of Jesus Christ: his birth (Calle Marina), his passion, death and resurrection (Calle Sardenya), and his glory, present and future. (Mallorca street).
Discover the history hidden behind each façade, each tower, each stone... and enter the temple, let yourself be enveloped by the magic of the lights and colors: you will live a unique sensory and emotional experience!
